The Divine purpose of God for man

Many times, we are confused as to what the reason for the existence of man is. God who created man has a purpose and a reason for creating man most especially in his likeness. God is the manufacturer of man and he has the manual of our lives with him. This manual contains the purpose we are to serve and the dos and don’ts of everyone’s life.
The first book of Genesis captures the reason why we were created by God. When he created every other thing that exists in heaven and on Earth, he didn’t categorically state the purpose he wants those things to serve. In Genesis 1:3, God created LIGHT, yet he didn’t say specifically what he wanted the light to do.
Gen 1:3 And God said, “Let there be light” and there was light.-KJV
In verse 9, he created waters and dry land, yet he didn’t state their purpose.
Gen 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place and let the dry land appear: and it was so -KJV
It was so with several other things that he created such as animals, fishes, and birds.
Now, the time finally came for God to make man, he said: “Let us make man in our image according to our likeness, And let him have dominion over the fish in the sea, over the fowl of the air, and the cattle and all the earth and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Gen 1:26(KJV)
Here God stated the purpose of man even before he began creating him.
According to this verse, the purpose of God for man is;

1) TO SHOW FORTH GOD’S LIKENESS: That is, man is expected to go about with the likeness of God and the true reflection of what God looks like. God wanted man to be a manifestation of the character of God, to be a proof and evidence that points at the existence of God. This is why we as Christians must be careful of the way we live our lives. We carry the image of God, therefore, the world must see God in us.
I Pet 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: -KJV

2) TO RULE: To rule means to have Dominion. God created man so that man can be in control of every other thing he has created. He said, “and let him rule over the fish in the sea or the birds in the sky”. We have been chosen by God not to only reflect his likeness but to be in charge. It is like putting a man in charge of a Multi-National company worth trillions of dollars to oversee the affairs of the company and put things in order.
Just like a managing director, God created man so that he can commit the affairs of the rulership of the earth to him. He gave man the power to make wealth, the power to surmount difficulties, and the power to overcome Satan.
Lk 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you. -KJV
We as children of God have been given the power to rule over the power of darkness and to trample upon the enemy. God wants us to dominate in every area we find ourselves. Be it the political arena, academic environment, health sector, and so on.
When a man is not living the life God wants him to live or is not working in line with the purpose of God’s creation, such a man will begin to experience certain things. Let’s consider some of the signs of not living a life of purpose.
1) Living in sin
When a man is living in sin, such a man is not walking in line with God’s purpose. This is because God hates sin and whosoever commits sin is of the devil. And it is impossible to do the will of God when we are not of God.
I John 3:8 “He that committeth sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested so that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Vs 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not sin for his seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. -KJV

2) Lack of Joy and Excitement
Lack of Joy and Excitement is one of the signs that a man is not fulfilling God’s purpose, such a man will no longer see reasons to be happy neither will there be excitement that comes with living in God. Most times, such a person may not see reasons to continue to live due to frustration.
3) Lack of Direction
A man that is not fulfilling God’s purpose will have no sense of direction. He takes whatever path the world presents to him. Show me a man without a sense of direction and I will show you a man who is not fulfilling his purpose.

How To Discover God’s Purpose For Your Life

1) Go to God: God is the master planner and the master builder, he knew us even before forming us in our mother’s womb and has already designed the manual of our lives.
Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest out forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. -KJV
He alone knows what Purpose he wants everyone to fulfill. The Bible says for I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thought of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end. Jer 29:11(KJV)
One of the ways to know your purpose is to ask God who created you and search the scriptures to get Direction and instructions from God.

2) Determine Your Passion, Gifts, and Strength

God has given everyone specific gifts and strengths. Determine what you are good at, be it Business, Art, Craft, and so on. Build on whatever you find Joy doing. Some people are blessed with Oratory skills, and develop them and use them in line with the will of God. I Cor 2:9 But as it is written, ‘Eyes hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. -KJV
