Every name given to God by man was a result of his supernatural manifestation of different sides. The creative power of God as Jehovah Jireh which translates to God The provider was recorded in the Old testament during his ordeal with Abraham When the Lord told Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac to him.
Gen 22:1-2 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham and said ‘Behold , here I am.
Vs 2- And he said, Take now thy son, ‘thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest and get there into the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell there of”-KJV
God at first wanted to test Abraham to know the depth of his love for him. However, seeing the sincerity and obedience of Abraham, it birthed a new dimension of God and we saw how God miraculously provided for Abraham.
Gen 22-11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven and said Abraham, Abraham and he said, Here am I.
12- And he said ‘Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou dearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld they son, thine only son from me. -KJV
In this particular Chapter, God provides a ram to be used as burnt offering instead of Isaac. This ordeal prompted Abraham to call God Jehovah Jireh.
Gen 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the place Jehovah Jireh as it said to this day in the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.
The Bible also recorded lots of instaces where God provided for his people. We learnt of how he provided for the children of Isrealite when they were in the wilderness by sending down Bread from heaven.
EXO 16:4- Then the Lord said unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you and the people Shall go out and gather a certain rate everyday, that I may prove them whether they will walk in my law or no.
Vs 15- And the children of Isreal saw it, they said one to another, it is Manna: for they wish not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat -KJV
All these and more are evidences of God’s Divine provision in the Old testament which proved his work as God the provider.
The supernatural provision of God was not limited to the old testament alone. In the new Testament, we saw how God feed 5000 people with five loaves of bread and two fishes.
Mrk 6:41&42- And when he had taken the five loaves of bread and two fishes, he looked up to heaven and blessed and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them and the two fishes divided he among them all.
Vs 42 And they did all ate and were filled. -KJV
However in the world today, we seem to have forgotten how God the provider can provide for us and how he works in mysterious ways far beyond human comprehension.
We seem overwhelmed by our problems and anxiety has taken over the lives of many Christians.
God the provider encouraged us not to take thought of what we will wear, eat or what tomorrow will bring for tomorrow will take care of itself.
Matt 6:31&34- Therefore take no thought, saying what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or where withal shall we be clothed?
Vs 34a- Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought of its self. -KJV
God wants us to stop worrying about situations that we can not change by ourselves, her wanted us to really on him totally and trust him for every off our needs. He promised to provide all of our needs provided we can believe in him and let him take the wheel of our lives.
Phil 4:19- But my Good shall supply all your needs according to his riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. -KJV
God’s provision is not limited to animate things, He does not only provide physical things like houses, cars or money. He meets spiritual needs like peace, joy, long life, safety and lots more.
How To Enjoy God’s Divine provision
1. Close fellowship with God: When we maintain close fellowship and intimacy with God, he definitely meets every of our needs even before we ask of him. The Bible made this know in the book of Matthew.
Matt 6:33- But seek ye first kindom of God and it’s righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. -KJV
When we seek intimacy with God, we fellowship with him, and desire to know him more, he provides for us and we enjoy daily benefits of being his friend.
2. Obedience to his Instructions: A typical example of this can save seen in our earthly parents, they tend to favour any child that is always obedient to their instructions and ordinances. Just like our earthly parents, God provides for every of his child that obeys him and every of his Instructions just like Abraham did by obeying the instructions of God to sacrifice his only son.
As Christians too, if we must enjoy God’s Divine provision, we must also be ready to hearken to the voice of God whenever he is instructing us and be willing to obey every of his commandement. God is to cruel to forget our labour of love.
3. Depend on God totally: our God is a loving God and he wants to be seen as one as well. He feels our pains and troubles, what he simply want us to do is to depend on him for every of our needs. He wants us to call on him at every point when we are faced with a cross road, when we are confused, when we want to make any decision, and when we are confused about what life has in stock for us.
When we learn to depend on God for every little thing, he shows up for us In a big way.
Matt 7:7- Ask and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. -KJV
If our earthly parents can give us gifts when we ask for them, God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ever ask of him because he is the Jehovah Jireh, God the provider.
